I’ve been reminded this morning of a few useful little features of Microsoft Dynamics NAV which are easily overlooked.
In the classic NAV client you can collect your most frequently used menu options into your personal shortcuts group. Simply right click the option and choose “Send to Shortcuts”.
Great, but that shortcut is only available to you – what if you want to share it outside NAV? You can do that as well. Open the form to the record that you are interested in and choose File, Send, Link to Desktop / Link by Email.
The former will create a shortcut on your desktop which when run will open NAV and open the form to the record that you were on. Potentially useful for users who live in one form e.g. point of sale, or for NAV clients which just display KPI information.
The latter, unfortunately, will probably be rendered less useful by modern versions of Outlook blocking the URL attachment – but you can always copy the link location from the desktop shortcut and send that by email manually.
The same sort of thing is achievable in RTC, using a slightly different method. Open the page that you are interested in and choose Actions, Send to, Recipient as Attachment. This will create a new mail message with an html page attached. The top of that page has a link to the page. If you want to create a desktop shortcut just copy the link location into a new shortcut (pictured in Firefox, but similar in all browsers).
